The people that are most affected by the economic recession are the ones that were already poor. This crisis in the economy has led to increase in the prices of the insurance policies making it almost impossible for the low income families to acquire a decent insurance plan. The situation will get worse if the government does not step up for these people.
The group that is most affected by a lack of health insurance is the children. There are more than 18 million children in the US which come from poor families, whether their parents hold a job or not. Such families have to fight for the basic necessities of life and getting a health insurance for them is nothing less than a privilege.
Many times the health insurance plan comes with your job as part of the benefits from your employer. However, not all employers endow their employees with health insurance, as the jobs that poor people hold have low or even no benefits at all. They would not be considered poor if they had good jobs to begin with! It is not only the insurance costs, the cost of living has also increased in the past. Everything is more expensive, from tuition fee of the child's school to the mortgage payment on the house. With all these falling bills, health insurance is definitely not the priority for poor people.
These poor people are the ones that are most prone to serious health related issues because they do not get medical attention when a disease or a bodily issue is in its preliminary stages. As a result, the disease develops- what could have been cured earlier if the person had received medical care in time. Something as small as sore throat could develop into a serious bacterial infection if not treated properly with antibiotics. And the more serious the issue is, the more will be the medical bills which if the person is uninsured would have to be paid from the personal expenses.
